Today's Video Focus:  China has passed a law aimed at preventing a repeat of last year's pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong. There has been strong international condemnation of the hastily-passed legal crackdown, which is already leading to anti-Beijing groups disbanding.

Focus of the Day Article: The Law Society has called on the government to allow firms to use the apprenticeship levy more flexibly than now to create new jobs and retrain staff as part of the support needed in the wake of Covid-19. It also urged tax incentives to encourage solicitors’ investment in technology as well as continuing wider financial support, such as a temporary cut in VAT. The new campaign, dubbed ‘Return, Restart and Recovery’, said allowing firms to spend the apprenticeship levy on a wider range of support would allow them “to create the new jobs that will provide the backbone of the sector in the long term”.
