Focus of the day story: Changes to the way compensation payouts are calculated have been unveiled today by the Lord Chancellor following a pledge made by ministers to consult on whether there was a fairer way to set the discount rate in future. In February, the then Lord Chancellor, Liz Truss, reduced the discount rate from 2.5 per cent to -0.75 per cent amid fears of a judicial review brought by claimant lawyers.
