Advocates have criticised the state’s recent rental reform legislation, saying it has “watered down” key protections for Queensland renters. They say the draft bill, which is currently before Queensland Parliament, fails to protect tenants from unfair evictions "without cause" at the end of a fixed-term contract. There are calls for the bill to be amended to protect tenants from evictions without grounds at the end of fixed-term agreements. 
  
Focus of the Day Article:
The Law Society has condemned legislation that would make it a criminal offence to knowingly arrive in the UK without permission. The Nationality and Borders Bill begins its passage through parliament today. Home secretary Priti Patel said the legislation ‘paves the way for a fair but firm system that will break the business model of the gangs that facilitate dangerous and illegal journeys to the UK while speeding up the removal of those with no right to be here’.
