But for nearly three years, an encrypted app used by criminals was covertly monitored by the FBI and Australia's Federal Police (AFP) -- leading to hundreds of arrests and tens of millions of dollars in asset seizures, authorities revealed

The legal profession is urging the Ministry of Justice to think again on early disclosure plans or risk them failing before they even begin.  Today's Highlighted Video Story: An investigation has revealed widespread allegations of sexual harassment and abuse in the Afghan Police Force. After months of research, the BBC has spoken to a number of women who say they were raped or assaulted by their superiors or colleagues. Human rights groups say the majority of the attacks go unreported. Momena waived her anonymity to talk to the BBC about what happened to her. She is still working as a policewoman, although she has changed departments. Hosna Jalil is no longer Deputy Interior Minister. She says she believes she was removed because she had been "a loud voice".

 Focus of the Day Article:
In its judgment of 25 May 2021 the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights found that certain aspects of the UK’s regime governing bulk interception of communications were contrary to Articles 8 and 10 of the Convention. The case concerned three different interception regimes: bulk interception of communications; the receipt of intercepted material from foreign governments and intelligence agencies; and the obtaining of communications data from communication service providers (“CSPs”). The three applications were introduced by individuals, journalists and human rights organisations following Edward Snowden’s revelations about surveillance programmes operated by the intelligence services of the USA and the UK.  Full story - UK Human Rights Blog

 Today's Highlighted Video Story: The India Supreme Court on Thursday cancelled a sedition case against journalist Vinod Dua and said a 1962 order protects every journalist from such charges. Mukul Rohatgi, former Attorney General and Senior Advocate, Supreme Court, said: "This law must be repealed; it is a relic of British imperialism. In the last more than 40 years of my practice I have not seen frequent invocation of the law except in the last 5 or 7 years; it shows very disturbing trends. Overzealous police authorities are invoking these sections only to please their political masters".
