Today's Video Focus: The African Union (AU) has suspended Sudan days after the military launched a brutal crackdown on protesters that killed dozens of people. The AU's Peace and Security Department said in a post on Twitter on Thursday that Sudan's participation in all AU activities would be suspended with immediate effect - "until the effective establishment of a civilian-led transitional authority" as the only way to "exit from the current crisis".

Today's Video Focus: Activists in Sudan say at least 27 people have been killed after security forces launched an assault on a camp at the centre of the country's protest movement in Khartoum, sending activists running for cover to escape the gunfire. Other sit-in protests around the country were also attacked in what appeared to be a co-ordinated push to crush the opposition movement, which has been calling on Sudan's military rulers to hand over power to civilian rule.

Legal representation for immigration detainees is very poor, including the quality of advice given by solicitors, according to a charity that challenges detention in removal centres and prisons.
It argued that although the number of law firms allowed to provide advice had increased, lawyers’ expertise in the subject had dropped. It said interviewees responding to a survey “painted a damning picture of the quality of the legal advice surgeries” under the Legal Aid Agency’s detention duty advice (DDA) scheme.
