FOCUS OF THE DAY: Reorganisation at the top of the Legal Ombudsman could cost the profession an extra £90,000 a year in managers’ salaries, the Gazette can reveal. The Office for Legal Complaints (OLC) this month started advertising for the posts of both chief executive and chief ombudsman. These functions were both performed by Adam Sampson until his resignation in November 2014, after which the job was split into two parts under interim managers. That structure will be retained under new permanent managers. According to the job advertisements, the new chief executive will earn up to £120,000 a year and the chief ombudsman up to £101,500. FOCUS OF THE DAY: Pay gap shrinks but men still receive bonuses 66 per cent higher than their women counterparts. The gender gap between the total compensation of male and female lawyers is narrowing at an average rate of 4 per cent a year meaning that, at current trajectories, salaries should reach parity by 2021, according to a legal recruitment specialist. FOCUS OF THE DAY: The Legal Ombudsman (LeO) is set to consult on allowing third parties to complain about lawyers in certain circumstances, it has emerged. The Birmingham-based body will also consult on establishing a voluntary scheme that enables unregulated providers to give their customers access to redress and dispute resolution services, LeO’s newly published business plan for 2015-16 has revealed.
