Today's Highlighted Video Story: The European Union has accused the Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko of a "gangster-style” approach towards migrants trying to cross the Polish border and trying to force them to make an illegal entry into the EU. Thousands of people are now camped out along the frontier in freezing temperatures, while Poland has sent extra troops and riot police to shore up its security.

Focus of the Day Story:  The High Court has refused to make an order to prevent future claims on a law firm’s fees that claimants may argue came from stolen funds. Mr Justice Miles said the claimants would have to overcome “serious legal and evidential obstacles” to bring such claims and there was “no present prospect” of them doing so. -------------------------------------------------------------

Today's Highlighted Video Story: Poland has accused Belarus of creating a major incident on the border between the two countries by encouraging migrants to try to force their way across. The Polish government says there are currently between 3,000 and 4,000 people at the border with thousands more ready to follow them. 12,000 Polish troops have been deployed to protect the razor-wire fence along the border. The European Union says Belarus is deliberately creating the migrant crisis on its borders in retaliation for Western sanctions.

Focus of the Day Story:

Re C [2021] EWCA Civ 1527 This is an appeal from Hayden J’s judgment in Re C [2021] EWCOP 25. The appeal was allowed on the basis that care workers making arrangements to secure the services of a sex worker for C would place the care workers in peril of committing an offence contrary to section 39 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 (“SOA”). Background - The issue was whether care workers would commit a criminal offence under section 39 of the SOA if they made practical arrangements for C to visit a sex worker. C had the capacity to consent to sexual relations but not to make the arrangements. Full story - UK Human Rights Blog

Today's Highlighted Video Story: Tax havens cost governments at least $245bn a year in lost revenue – and many of these havens are British. In fact, the country is leading the world in hiding legitimate money and laundering dirty cash. So how did we get here, and how has Britain managed to preside over a third of the world's lost taxes?
