Today's video story: They became known as East Timor's stolen generation - around 4,000 children taken from their families in the 1980s and 1990s during Indonesia's brutal occupation. Some were conscripted into the Indonesian military; others taken by religious groups or state institutions. Indonesia calls them the "separated children" and denies they were taken by force. Now a local NGO is taking them back to East Timor - now an independent nation - for the first time.

Focus of the day story:
Some 55% of legal professionals are dissatisfied with pay, according to the Hays Legal UK Salary Guide 2017. It found that legal professionals had one of the lowest average salary increases in 2016, at one per cent, when compared with other industries covered in the guide. Full story - New Law Journal

Today's video story: Several opposition rallies, most of which were unsanctioned, took place in Russia on Sunday. A number of people were detained for disorderly conduct. Opposition figure Aleksey Navalny is among those detained in central Moscow. Navalny called on his supporters to protest on Sunday, weeks after releasing a report on the alleged corruption of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. He accused the head of the Russian government of personal enrichment through embezzlement.

For years people from around the region have flocked to its “super night clubs” in the hope of meeting and sleeping with women. But the influx of Syrian refugees has pushed more people into the sex industry, with many Syrians turning to prostitution to survive. Benjamin Zand from BBC Pop Up meets Syrian refugees who say they had no other choice but to become prostitutes, and finds out how European women in "super night clubs" are being locked up, by law, everyday.

Focus of the day story: bill designed to make it easier for lawyers to act for their clients in intellectual property disputes is close to completing its passage through parliament. The IP (Unjustified Threats) Bill passed the report stage, where all MPs can debate it, and third reading without amendments yesterday. The bill now requires only royal assent before becoming law. Commending the bill to a sparsely populated House of Commons, IP minister Jo Johnson said that ‘IP is crucial to supporting growth’ and that he was pleased that this ‘vital and important piece of legislation’ was completing its passage.
