Today's Video Focus: Hate crimes against Muslims have dramatically increased, according to FBI statistics. Muslims in the US have reported incidents ranging from verbal abuse and intimidation to physical assaults, whille mosques have been vandalised and, in some cases, been hit with home-made explosives. Against this backdrop the number of Islamophobic organisations in the US has risen sharply - anti-Muslim groups trebled between 2015 and 2016. The election of Donald Trump as US president has given them more space to thrive, and they are becoming ever more adroit at spreading their disinformation through social media, buying fake Twitter followers and using bots that spread anti-Islam messages. The traditional image of hate organisations brings to mind groups of disaffected, angry individuals with placards. But Islamophobia Incorporated is well-oiled, amply funded and politically connected.

Today's Video Focus: The US President has confirmed for the first time that he made a six figure payment to his lawyer, believed to be reimbursement for hush money paid to Stormy Daniels. She's an adult film star who claims she had an affair with Donald Trump, and she received the payment to keep her mouth shut during the 2016 presidential campaign. Focus of the Day story:  MPs have slated government proposals to raise the threshold for small claims. Increasing the small claims limit from £1,000 to £2,000 for employers’ liability and public liability claims, and to £5,000 for road traffic accident-related personal injury, would create significant access to justice concerns, according to a report this week by the Justice Committee. The change would be made by secondary legislation. The winning side cannot recover legal costs for small claims, which means solicitors cannot represent them on a ‘no win, no fee’ basis.
