 FOCUS OF THE DAY: The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has refused to back down over its controversial call for a £500,000 professional indemnity minimum limit. Its proposal, first mooted in July, was put on hold last month when the Legal Services Board (LSB) requested more time to review the implications and suggested it might consider approval if the SRA dropped its plans to replace the current £2m minimum cover limit. The annual benchmarking survey of law firms by accountancy firm Crowe Clark Whitehill found that firms located outside of London recorded a higher rate of annual growth in revenues than their counterparts in the City. FOCUS OF THE DAY: Allegations that a bullying lord chancellor Chris Grayling acted improperly in his dealings with the Law Society over criminal legal aid reforms were rebutted by his barrister today. In the second day of a case brought by the Criminal Law Solicitors’ Association and the London Criminal Courts Solicitors’ Association - and part-funded the Law Society - James Eadie QC said there was ‘no impropriety’ in the way Chris Grayling had acted.
