 Focus of the Day Article: The government has extended the current ban on evictions until the end of March – a decision that has been cautiously welcomed by housing lawyers who remain concerned that tenants can still be made homeless due to Covid-related rent arrears. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government announced over the weekend that the ban on bailiff evictions has been extended until 31 March. Exemptions to the ban include illegal occupation, anti-social behaviour and rent arrears of six months or more. Landlords must give six months’ notice before starting possession proceedings.  Today's Highlighted Video Story: Police in Myanmar have filed a new charge against deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi, her lawyer said, as the country’s military leaders attempted to defend their actions. The additional count against Suu Kyi came as Myanmar's military held its first news conference, two weeks after it ousted the democratically elected leader, detained key government officials and formed a new ruling junta. Suu Kyi's lawyer Khin Maung Zaw told CNN that she had been charged in relation to a national disaster law, in addition to the earlier count under the country's import and export act. She appeared in a court hearing via video conference on Tuesday, according to Zaw

 Today's Highlighted Video Story: Since November 2020, thousands of farmers have been on strike protesting new laws they fear will drive them out of business. But why and who are they? Farmers and their families have been protesting in India for months, camped out in Delhi demonstrating over the government's new farm laws which they think will ruin their livelihoods. The three new farming laws were brought in last summer. They loosen the rules around the sale, pricing and storage of farm produce - which means farmers can sell directly to private buyers, instead of government-controlled markets where they get a minimum guaranteed price.

 Focus of the Day Article:  On 8 February 2020, small but significant changes were made to the Part 3 (Case Management) of the Criminal Procedure Rules and Practice Directions 2020 (“CrimPR”).  These changes remove the requirement that defendants in criminal trials provide their nationality to the court at preliminary hearings.
