Today's Highlighted Video Story: Following the sad news of the death of former Supreme Court Justice, Lord Brown of Eaton-Under-Haywood on 7 July 2023, Lord Lloyd-Jones paid tribute to him before the hearing in the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council on 10 July. His words were followed by a tribute from Timothy Straker KC on behalf of counsel.
Lord Brown was appointed a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary in 2004 and became a Justice of the Supreme Court at its inauguration on 1 October 2009.
Lord Brown retired from the Court in 2012 and since then had been an active cross-bencher in the House of Lords.
Focus of the Day Legal News: Publishing its ‘Progress on the courts and tribunals reform programme’ report last week, the Public Accounts Committee expressed serious concerns that HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) has just £120m left of its total £1.3bn budget despite completing only 24 of 44 reform projects.
