Today's Highlighted Video Story:  Three US-based women talk about the seedy world of online sex trafficking, with its secret code words, manipulation, and victims sold to the highest bidder.

Focus of the Day Story:  The judgment in Forstater v CDG Europe UKEAT/0105/20/JOJ has forced the courts yet again to grapple with the transgender debate. We have already seen the judiciary face up to the challenging issues of whether children with gender dysphoria can consent to receiving puberty blockers (see recent decision in Bell v Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust [2021] EWCA Civ 1363). In the present case, the issue was whether the Claimant’s belief that biological sex is real, important, immutable, and not to be conflated with gender identity was a “philosophical belief” within the meaning of section 10 of Equality Act 2010 (“EqA”).  Today's Highlighted Video Story:  There is a little corner of the energy market that gets very little coverage. But after a cold winter in Europe last year, the continent has failed to fill its storage tanks for the next six months. That failure has sent gas prices surging. This is not just a problem for Europe; the rest of the world could go without as rich countries corner the market, in a similar way to vaccines. Simone Tagliapietra, a senior fellow at think-tank Bruegel, explains what is behind the crisis.

Today's Highlighted Video Story:  In the last two years, crime in New South Wales has either fallen, or stayed stable across every major category, except one: sexual assault. The number of women coming forward to police to say they've been sexually assaulted has grown significantly and continues to rise with reports up 21% in just the past year. But it's not necessarily that there have been more assaults, but rather an increase in awareness, thanks largely to the advocacy of three young women.

Focus of the Day Story:  Probate practitioners have called for legislative change to help families access the 'digital assets' of relatives who have died. A study by STEP – a professional body for inheritance planning advisers – and Queen Mary University of London found that there is a lack of clarity around property rights relating to digital assets.
