 Today's Highlighted Video Story: Patrik and Zsolt are activists and YouTubers representing LGBTQ+ people in Hungary, where a new 'anti-paedophile' law means it is illegal to educate about or to promote LGBTQ+ issues to under-18s. This law follows earlier restrictions by Viktor Orbán's government on trans rights and adoption by gay parents. Patrik and Zsolt think gay people are the latest scapegoats for the governing Fidesz party, but Budapest's Pride parade is an opportunity to protest against the new laws and to rally support.

Focus of the Day Article: Competition between training providers is heating up ahead of the introduction of the Solicitors Qualifying Exam next month, with the University of Law striking a deal with City firm Taylor Wessing. From next year, future trainees at Taylor Wessing will study ULaw’s SQE programme, which will focus on the skills needed to work in commercial law. The profession previously raised concerns that the new qualification route – designed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority – would fail to adequately equip graduates for City work. Panjshir has now become the last holdout against the Taliban. Self-proclaimed ‘Caretaker President’ of Afghanistan Amrullah Saleh has reportedly retreated to Panjshir. Pictures of Saleh has surfaced on social media that shows him with Ahmad Massoud, the son of his former mentor in Panjshir. Focus of the Day Article: T and B v Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority and another [2021] UKSC 27 - On appeal from [2018] EWCA Civ 1534: The claimants in the case were victims of human trafficking with unspent convictions in Lithuania. The Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme (CICS) provides compensation to victims of crime, apart from where they have unspent criminal convictions (“the exclusionary rule”). The question for the Supreme Court was whether the exclusionary rule breached the claimants’ rights under Articles 4 and 14 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
