The solicitor general has told charities spearheading this year's week-long pro bono celebration that he wants the event to reach out to new audiences. Robert Buckland QC MP announced today that National Pro Bono Week will take place between 4-8 November. He told staff at the National Pro Bono Centre in London this morning that, not only did he want this year's events to promote the value of pro bono, but 'in the adage of that lager commercial, refresh the parts others cannot reach. Reaching out to new audiences, making people more aware of the work you do and the value of pro bono'.

Today's Video Focus: Brunei is introducing strict new anti-LGBT laws, with some offences punishable by stoning to death - a move which has sparked international condemnation. Two Bruneians, who have left the country, share their experiences of what it's like growing up as an LGBT person in Brunei.

Focus of the Day Article:
At least some MPs are doing their day job. This week the Commons justice committee demanded that all prison sentences of less than a year be scrapped, in a drastic measure apparently to slash the prison population in England and Wales, and because short sentences do not work. Assuming it does not just mean longer sentences, this is good news.
