Sexual violence is not only prevalent on the battlefields of war but can also be experienced at home or work. Will the presitigious award provide a much larger platform for survivors of sexual violence everywhere?

Today's Video Focus: Former TV anchor and producer Suhaib Ilyasi who was sentenced to life in jail for the murder of his wife 18 years ago, was acquitted by the Delhi High Court today. Ilyasi, who became a household name as the host of popular crime show "India's Most Wanted", had appealed against his conviction and imprisonment. The 52-year-old's daughter Aaliya, who was in court when the verdict came, said she always had trust in her father. "I am very very happy. I am not able to express myself much right now. For all this while, we were silent about it because the judgement was yet to come. We have suffered a lot but I trust my father completely and I had always trusted him," she said.

To retain public confidence judges cannot stand ‘aloof’ from society, warned the Lord Chief Justice, as he called for a ‘measured expansion of livestreaming and broadcasting’ of proceedings.
Speaking at the Commonwealth Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association annual conference in Australia, Lord Justice Burnett urged judges to engage more with the public and media. He said: ‘The judiciary invites misunderstanding or incomprehension if it stands completely apart and aloof from society.’

Law firms face a tight turnaround to publish price and service information for consumers and small businesses, the Law Society of England and Wales has warned after the Solicitors Regulation Authority published guidance on regulations coming into force in December. ’Many firms that provide legal services to consumers and small businesses will be required to act quickly to comply with these new rules,’ Society president Christina Blacklaws said. Given the short time some firms have to cover a lot of ground – and the uncertainty surrounding what adjustments they may have to make for Brexit – we’d encourage the SRA to take a light approach to enforcement in the first months.’

Reports of sexual harassment at the Bar are not turning into formal complaints to barristers’ regulator, new figures have shown. The Bar Standards Board’s (BSB) annual enforcement report said it received just eight complaints about sexual harassment in the year to 31 March 2018, compared to none at all the previous year.

 The Chair of the Criminal Bar Association (CBA) has hit out at ‘completely unacceptable’ delays to £15m fee increases promised by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). The MoJ is currently consulting on the spending increase, which would be fed into the advocates’ graduated fee scheme (AGFS) for criminal defence advocates in the Crown Court. The MoJ promised the extra money at a meeting with the CBA in May, in return for criminal barristers suspending their protest action.
