Today's video story: The independence of Kurdish Iraq is just a matter of time. That's the message from the head of the US Defense Intelligence Agency. The announcement comes just weeks after Iraq's Kurds announced plans to hold an independence referendum this year, once Islamic State is defeated. The US provided allied Syrian Kurds with weapons including mortars, heavy machine guns, anti-tank weapons and armored vehicles.

To take his music into the hearts of rallies and communities, he raises money to build a giant sound system and hits the road. Taru hopes his hand-built stack of speakers can support protesters alleging that free speech is being suppressed under Narendra Modi's Hindu nationalist government. But he's uncertain how local artists and activists will react. Will they embrace his Jamaica-inspired music, or see him as a naive outsider out of touch with the country's politics?

Today's video story: Theresa May has said proposed changes to social care funding in England will now include an "absolute limit" on the money people will have to pay. The prime minister denied claims of a U-turn, saying she was responding to "shameful" claims that people would be forced to sell their family home. Last week's Tory manifesto did not mention a cap but the PM said her plans still offered a long-term solution. But Labour and the Lib Dems said the policy was "in meltdown".

It has been three months since famine, which has been caused by a longstanding conflict between the government and rebels groups, was declared in some parts of South Sudan. But areas outside the famine zones are also suffering from severe food shortages. More than a million people in the country are on the brink of starvation. Some of them are trying to flee to neighboring Sudan for relief.

A 23-year-old law student in Kerala allegedly chopped off the penis of a swami, a self-styled godman, who had been allegedly raping her for many years. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reacted to the incident and said that it was brave of her to take such a step. "It's a courageous and strong act by the woman," he said.

Focus of the day story:   pilot scheme for testing the new online court is on track for launch at the end of July. Minutes from the April meeting of the Civil Procedure Rule Committee, published this week, reveal draft rules have been developed alongside the IT that will allow claims to be settled online. Last year Lord Justice Briggs recommended significant changes to the structure of civil courts, including a three-stage process for disputes to be resolved virtually.
