FOCUS OF THE DAY: The Law Society has extended its consumer campaign promoting solicitors until the end of October this year, after an increase in traffic to the society’s ‘Find a Solicitor’ website of 18.5% in the first four months. Mike Browne, interim head of communications at Chancery Lane, said visits to the website had increased by almost 300,000 since the campaign was launched on 1 September last year. In a report for this week’s meeting of the society’s membership board, he said 961 law firms had ordered the consumer campaign pack to use locally. Full story - Legal Futures

FOCUS OF THE DAY: The Supreme Court has quashed Westminster Council’s decision to house a mother of five 50 miles away from her family. The landmark ruling means all local authorities will need to urgently review their policies and publish fresh guidance, according to Hodge, Jones & Allen (HJA), who acted for the mother. HJA said local authorities should have a policy for procuring sufficient units of temporary accommodation to meet anticipated demand, and a publicly available policy for allocating units to individual homeless households.
