LASPO four years on, the Law Society concludes that the legislation, which came into force in April 2013, has denied access to justice to society’s most vulnerable, hit the public purse and damaged the foundation of the justice system. Focus of the day story:  Parliament should avoid ’dangerous ambiguity’ in the legal system by formally instructing courts to take account of European Court of Justice (CJEU) decisions when they are relevant post Brexit, a thinktank has warned in the run-up to the Repeal Bill.  In Brexit and the European Court of Justice the Institute for Government says that ministers have left fundamental questions unanswered on the status of CJEU decisions after the UK leaves the European Union. While the government has said pre-Brexit decisions of the European Court will be incorporated into UK law, it has not said how British judges should treat future rulings. Today's video story: Nicola Sturgeon has said she is to "reset" her plans for a second referendum on Scottish independence. The first minister had called for an independence referendum to be held in the autumn of next year or the spring of 2019. But she has been considering her options since the SNP lost 21 seats in the election earlier this month. Ms Sturgeon told Holyrood she not "immediately" seek to introduce legislation for a referendum.
