According to Deloitte’s Quarterly Legal Sector Survey, average income in this segment rose by 4.7% in the second quarter of 2015-16, an increase of 1.6% per fee-earner. FOCUS OF THE DAY: The finance directors of large law firms prefer to stick with more traditional forms of funding for their practices that do not involve accepting external investment, new research has indicated. Bank lending was seen as the most appropriate form of funding for law firms by those surveyed by Thomson Reuters, with alternative finance options such as asset finance and invoice discounting also gaining approval. FOCUS OF THE DAY: The British public don’t trust the legal system and feel frustrated by it, disturbing new research has found.The numbers speak for themselves. Fewer than one in five people in the UK agree that the justice system is “fair and transparent” and more than half say it is inaccessible. More than two-thirds think wealth is now a more important factor in accessing justice than it used to be (this figure is even higher among legal professionals, 87% of whom agree).
