 Today's Highlighted Video Story: The leader of the Scottish Conservatives has demanded the resignation of the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. In a statement, Douglas Ross claimed there was no doubt she had misled the Scottish Parliament and broken the ministerial code. Earlier the Scottish government was forced to hand over legal advice to a committee looking into the handling of sexual harassment complaints against former first minister Alex Salmond. They had refused for months to release this legal advice, defying two parliamentary votes that demanded it be handed over. After the threat of a no confidence vote, the Scottish government conceded.

 Today's Highlighted Video Story: A US intelligence report has concluded that Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman personally approved the murder of the exiled journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. He was killed while visiting the Saudi consulate in the Turkish city of Istanbul. The declassified intelligence report says Prince Salman approved a plan to either "capture or kill" Khashoggi, who had criticised the Saudi regime. It’s the first time America has publicly named the crown prince, who has denied ordering the murder. 

 

Focus of the Day Article: Shamima Begum, the woman who travelled to Syria as a child and aligned herself with ISIS, has failed in all her appeals to the Supreme Court and cannot return to the UK to argue her citizenship case. The court unanimously allowed the Secretary of State’s appeals and dismissed Ms Begum’s cross-appeal.  Today's Highlighted Video Story: A pattern seems to be emerging in India. Activists are being arrested for the farmers protest and charged under serious charges - sedition, attempt to murder, and then granted bail; in some cases, the bail orders dismantling the police case. Today it was the turn of Nodeep Kaur, a 23-year-old Dalit labour rights activist from Punjab. Arrested over 45 days ago by the Haryana police, she is now out on bail. Her arrest received less attention than those of the activists arrested under the so-called 'Toolkit' case of the Delhi police, but it contains many of the similar ingredients.
