Today's Focus Video Story: Alabama authorities say arson is being investigated in a fire that destroyed the home of Tina Johnson, a woman who accused former US Senate candidate Roy Moore of grabbing her on the buttocks in 1991. No arrests have been made, and there appears to be no connection to the allegations against Moore, the Etowah County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.


Focus of the Day Story: The search is officially on for the next Justices of the Supreme Court—and it could result in more representation of women in the highest court in the land. The Selection Commission has advertised vacancies for the roles of Deputy President and two, possibly three, Justices. Potential candidates have until midday on 26 January 2018 to submit their applications for the job interview-of-a-lifetime. The new appointees will assume office between June 2018 and January 2019. Today's Focus Video Story: Bihar's veteran politician Lalu Yadav, who was convicted in a second case of fodder scam -- involving the embezzlement of more than Rs. 89 lakh in government funds -- was given three-and-a-half-year's jail term and a fine of Rs. 10 lakh by a special court in Ranchi today. It is unclear whether the 69-year-old will be able to walk out of jail in the near future. In Patna, Mr Yadav's son Tejashwi Yadav, who held an emergency strategy meet with the leaders of his Rashtriya Janata Dal, said, "The judiciary has performed its duty. We will go to the High Court after studying the sentence and apply for a bail". The former Chief Minister, who is in Ranchi's Birsa Munda Jail, received his sentence through video-conference.

He made the statement on Twitter, blaming Palestinians for refusing to engage in Middle East peace talks. The PA responded saying the US should not blame Palestinians for 'its own failures'. Relations with the US have plummeted since Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital last month. The aid cut threatens money allocated to the Palestinian Authority. But most US funding goes to development and building projects - and not directly to the Authority itself. The US is also withholding millions in financial assistance to the Pakistani government. Saying Islamabad has given the US 'nothing but lies and deceit' over the years - accusing the country of being a 'safe heaven for terrorists'. Focus of the Day Story: Young lawyers will be asked if they have suffered from work-related mental health issues in the past 12 months following stark findings last year in which one in four juniors said they felt ‘severe’ stress at work. A questionnaire is to be sent out over the coming days asking 56,000 young lawyers to report their stress levels. The survey, which is organised by the Law Society’s Junior Lawyers Division (JLD), follows a similar exercise last year in which high levels of stress were reported.
