Focus of the Day article: Law school pass rates range from 100% to under 30% depending on where you study, a report by the Solicitors Regulation Authority has revealed. For the academic year to 31 August 2018, the proportion of students who passed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) ranged from 29% to 100% among 25 postgraduate institutions. However, with a movement spanning both class and sectarian divides, young revolutionaries believe that this time they will finally get the changes they're demanding.


Focus of the Day article: Many readers will know that we recently marked the centenary of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919, which paved the way for women to practise as solicitors and barristers in England and Wales for the first time. The most recent figures show that women now make up a majority of practising solicitors, but I believe there is still a long way to go to establish the level of women in senior roles in law firms. Israel has said it intends to formally annex all settlements in the West Bank based on President Trump's plan. But the US proposals are rejected by the Palestinians, who say its vision of a state for them is unacceptable. About 600,000 Jews live in about 140 settlements built since Israel's occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 1967.

The two groups met and had several discussions and confrontations. The police were trying to keep the groups apart by using tear gas and water cannons to disperse them.


Focus of the Day article: In two related judgments, Lieven J considered an application made by a Hospital Trust to withdraw treatment from a child receiving mechanical ventilation to keep him alive and an application for anonymity on behalf of his treating clinicians.  The Trust succeeded in both. At least 800,000 people have fled the fighting since the start of December. They are stranded in areas near the border with Turkey, suffering in cold temperatures in overcrowded camps.
