Focus of the day story: The current reciprocal rules for enforcing civil justice across the EU cannot be replicated by the Great Repeal Bill, a committee of Peers has found. In a report published this week, “Brexit: justice for families, individuals and businesses?”, the House of Lords EU Justice Sub-Committee gave a dire warning about access to justice across the EU for families and businesses post-Brexit. Today's video story: Eyewitnesses speak about the Paris-Orly airport attack where a man was shot dead after he tried to grab a soldier's gun. The man, named as "Ziyed B", was killed by security forces in France after attacking a patrol in the airport's south terminal. Earlier on Saturday 18 March he had been involved in a shooting and then a carjacking in the Paris area. Prosecutors have opened an anti-terror investigation. Ziyed B had been reported as radicalised in the past, and was on a police watch-list.

The ongoing demonstrations by farmers from Tamil Nadu at Jantar Mantar in Delhi in an attempt to bring their drought woes to the attention of the Centre.  How does one raise her/his voice to be able to get the attention of those who don't understand the language? The farmers from Tamil Nadu do not know any language other than their native Tamil language. However, they are under the compulsion to highlight their concerns to the media and government in the capital where only Hindi and English are understood by most people.

Thousands of civilians are fleeing the surrounding area ahead of an assault by US-backed Kurdish and Arab fighters that is widely expected to start in the coming weeks.


Focus of the day story:  Methods that allow members of the public and lay clients to instruct barristers directly without turning to a solicitor first are working well, the barristers’ regulator has claimed. In a review of its public and licensed access schemes published today, the Bar Standards Board said the schemes are an important way to access legal services.
