FOCUS OF THE DAY story: 'The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that whole life tariffs for murder do not breach the Convention. However, three of the court’s seven judges found that imposing whole life tariffs amounted to “inhuman and degrading” treatment for the purposes of article 3 of the Convention.'
